A solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) membrane was proposed as a safer alternative to lithium-ion batteries that include liquid electrolyte. This SPE would serve as both the separator and electrolyte. Cellulose acetate (CA) was employed as a substitute for fossil-derived polymer in the role of battery separator in this study. Membrane fabrication process involved the utilization of the non-solvent and thermal induced phase separation (N-TIPS) approach. In order to enhance the advancement of sustainable membrane production, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) was utilized as the solvent, while deionized water served as the non-solvent. Branched polyethyleneimine (bPEI) was added to the polymer electrolyte complex to enhance the dissociation of electrolyte salt within the matrix. The crosslinking of CA-bPEI demonstrated favorable characteristics in comparison to the unmodified CA membrane. The modified CA membrane exhibited enhanced thermal stability and reduced crystallinity, leading to improved ionic conductivity.
