To achieve the carbon-neutrality, we suggested the next-generation energy paradigm of applying organic energy materials in ubiquitous energy applications. First, we applied organic charge-transfer complex (OCTC) as electrode materials for rechargeable batteries, and it could overcome limited material characteristics of organics such as low electronic conductivity. Moreover, the molecular redesign strategy was performed, and the 4 V class p-type organic cathodes were successfully demonstrated. Second, we developed a new component, the electrolyte additive for accelerating the intrinsic kinetics of the water electrolysis reaction for the first time. OCP, a liquid-phase co-catalyst dissolved in the electrolyte could successfully reduce the significant amount of overpotential required for the oxygen evolution reaction. These new strategies that can apply organics in the universal types of energy devices have a great potential to reach the next-generation energy mix for carbon-neutrality.
