Biodegradable bioplastics have emerged as a promising alternative to conventional plastics in addressing the global plastic pollution crisis. While significant progress has been made in enhancing the mechanical properties and degradation rates of these materials, recent research highlights the need for a more comprehensive approach to bioplastic development and implementation. Key findings indicate that effective bioplastic waste management strategies are crucial, as these materials may not degrade as readily in natural environments. The study explores innovative approaches to circular waste management, including the use of organisms like superworms to convert bioplastic waste into valuable biomass. Additionally, the research underscores the importance of assessing the ecotoxicity of additives used in bioplastic formulations, particularly plasticizers that can leach into soil and aquatic environments.
