We studied the formation of viscous fluid threads in microfluidic focusing channel using miscible fluid pairs, including polymer solutions, at low flow rates. Our investigation focused on the dynamics of viscous multiphase flows, studying the interfacial destabilization of viscous threads. We examined stable thread formation and the stresses involved with instabilities, exploring regimes of thread swelling. This study offers a comprehensive classification of miscible fluid dynamics in microchannels, providing insights into the role of flow parameters and fluid properties to better understand viscous microflow processes and their applications in fields such as chemical engineering and biomedical diagnostics.
