The anionic polymerization of N,N-bis([1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl)-4′-ethenyl[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-amine (A), incorporating triphenylamine group, was performed using potassium naphthalenide in THF at −78 and −30 °C to investigate the temperature effect on polymerization behavior. Well-defined poly(A)s with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions were synthesized at both temperatures without any side reactions. Based on these results, well-controlled block copolymers containing poly(A) segment were prepared at −30 °C through the block copolymerization with styrene and 2-vinylpyridine to examine the relative reactivity of A. Thermal and optical properties of the resulting poly(A) were additionally confirmed for OLED applications.
