Synthesis and Characterization of Ion-Conductive and Cross-linkable Polyphosphazene for Solid Polymer Electrolyte in Lithium Secondary Batteries

This study presents the synthesis and detailed characterization of ion-conductive, cross-linkable polyphosphazene as a main polymer matrix in solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) for lithium secondary batteries. Utilizing a straightforward chemical route, polyphosphazene was functionalized with various groups to enhance its ionic conductivity and mechanical stability. The resulting SPEs were fabricated into all-solid, free-standing films. The resulting thermally stable, free-standing SPE systems demonstrated an impressive ionic conductivity of approximately 3.78 × 10−5 S cm−1 at 25℃, attributed to the flexible -P=N- backbone of main chain and ion-conductive moieties as the side group. These results suggest that polyphosphazene-based SPEs have the potential to significantly improve the performance and safety of lithium secondary batteries, advancing future energy storage technologies.
