Ion-containing gel polymers with cross-linking structures offer the advantages of high ionic conductivity, a high lithium transference number, and excellent adhesion properties, enabling them to function simultaneously as gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) and cathode binders for lithium metal batteries (LMBs). In this work, we synthesized GPEs using the Diels-Alder reaction to improve the lithium transference number and demonstrated their effectiveness as cathode binders. The resultant GPEs have a high storage shear modulus of 1.3 x 105 Pa and a high transference number of 0.71 at 298 K. Also, our GPE-based LFP/Li coin cell showed an outstanding specific capacity, comparable to that of a cell assembled with a conventional PVDF binder. Our work provides a strategy for designing crosslinked GPEs specifically tailored for LMBs.
