Anti-contact, optical-grade transparent glass panels with self-cleaning and antifouling properties to enhance energy efficiency

Glass with high transparency is widely used across various fields. To preserve this optical-grade transparency, ongoing research focuses on adding functional coatings or films. It is crucial that the glass retains its inherent properties after such modifications. In this study, we developed a straightforward chemical modification technique applying methyl groups to create a nanoscale texture on the glass surfaces. This modification resulted in improved light transmission and superhydrophobic characteristics. When applied to the cover glass of solar panels, the modified surface demonstrated enhanced performance and energy efficiency. Additionally, the glass surfaces also demonstrated strong anti-adhesion properties against microorganisms, indicating potential to prevent efficiency loss caused by biofilm formation. This surface modification technique, offering self-cleaning and antifouling benefits, holds promise for applications in various industries that require optical properties, such as solar cells, display devices.
