2,5-Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a biomass-based monomer with functional group suitable for polyester and polyamide synthesis. Its rigid ring with dicarboxylic acid, similar to terephthalic acid, are angled at 129.4o. Such unique structure shows high potential to be a successful bioplastic substituent but yet has been explored to its full potential. To discover the packing and spatial behavior of FDCA, homopolyester with 1,3-propanediol (PDO) and neopentyl glycol (NPG) counterpart was synthesized through two-step melt polymerization. The difference of PDO and NPG relies on additional two methyl group on second carbon in between hydroxyl group of NPGs. From these two-methyl radial difference, this study focuses on mechanical, morphological and crystallization behavior of spiral motif by FDCA.
