Synthesis and characterization of Polyrotaxane based α-cyclodextrin

The preparation and characterization of a Polyrotaxane consisting of PEG-BA and α-CD. The PEG-BA was prepared by step wise synthesis starting from PEG (2050). At first the PEG was reacted with CDI to form PEG-CDI. Then the PEG-BA was produced by the reaction of PEG-CDI with EDA (ethylene diamine). Finally, the Polyrotaxane was obtained by loading the α-CDs onto the PEG-BA and end capped with DNFB. The product was characterized by H1-NMR and FT- IR Spectroscopy. The H1-NMR spectra shows that the final product consists of α-CDs, PEG-BA, DNFB groups. The number of α-CDs in Polyrotaxane was determined from the NMR spectra, and 10 α-CDs were found to be captured on to the PEG-BA chain.
