Stretchable and Transparent Dry Adhesives for Low-Noise Wearable Biosignal Sensors

Conformal contact between the epidermis and dry electrodes is essential for acquiring low-noise multimodal biosignals during daily activities. In this study, we report stretchable dry adhesives composed of polyphenol and polyol composites. These composites exhibit greater stretchability and adhesive force compared to polyphenol-only and polyol-only thin films. The enhanced stretchability and adhesive force are attributed to hydroxyl groups, which facilitate hydrogen bonding between polyphenol and polyol molecules as well as between the composite and the epidermis. Dry adhesive thin films fabricated on stretchable and transparent poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)-based electrodes achieve conformal contact with human skin, enabling the measurement of low-noise biosignals. These findings highlight the importance of strong adhesion at the interface between epidermis and dry electrodes and contribute to the advancement of high-performance wearable biosignal sensors.
