Surface properties of UV-curable polysilsesquioxane hard coating film containing different organic functional group

Polymeric hard coating materials have been extensively used as protective films in many applications including optical films, displays, mobile phones, touch panels and automobiles. To improve the mechanical properties, various inorganic particles and additives have been incorporated into the polymer matrices. However, it has limited reinforced surface property. Organic-inorganic hybrid polysilsesquioxanes (PSQs) exhibit excellent features in terms of a good chemical resistance, mechanical properties, and thermal stability. Controlling the functional group (R) of PSQs (RSiO1.5)n can serve different surface property. In this study, our group synthesized two types PSQs introduced UV-curable acrylate moiety and different organic alkyl or aromatic moiety. The final layers were evaluated for their optical and surface properties such as transmittance, haze, water contact angle, hardness, scratch resistance and wear resistance.
