Dispersion stability of catalyst slurry is critical for high-performance polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). Herein, we report the first real-time correlation of flocculation and sedimentation in IrOx slurry using a rapid, nondestructive multiwavelength optical quantification method, based on the visible and near-IR spectral ranges. It is revealed that the visible stability index (VSI) of IrOx A slurry is 1.2 times higher than that of IrOx B, and the near-IR stability index (NSI) of IrOx A is 1.6 times higher than that of IrOx B, indicating IrOx B slurry has superior dispersion stability. Moreover, the adsorption and flocculation of ionomers with IrOx particles are explained by the increasing trend of VSI at 450, 550, and 650nm in the visible region, while the sedimentation of large particle aggregates is verified by comparing the NSI at 880, 1280, and 1640nm in the near-IR region.
