Managing diabetes is an ongoing challenge that requires accurate monitoring and timely insulin delivery to maintain blood glucose homeostasis. Continuous glucose monitoring(CGM) provides a non-invasive alternative by continuously monitoring glucose levels in various body fluids such as sweat, tears, saliva, and interstitial fluid. Here, we developed a photonic glucose patch sensor that incorporates a Tesla valve pattern of microfluidic systems to enable continuous sweat flow through microfluidic channels to the encapsulated sensing reservoir. Additionally, we synthesized optically glucose-responsive hydrogels with an oxygen-reactive fluorophore, enabling continuous glucose monitoring through the integration of micro-LED and photodetector. This optical microfluidic glucose patch sensor, in combination with smart watch systems or wireless communication systems, will enable effective real-time monitoring for non-invasive diabetic diagnosis.
