Electrophoretic Photonic Display using High Index Core-shell Spherical Particles in Non-polar Medium

Monodisperse colloidal particles have promising application in electrophoretic displays (EPD) with tunable color. EPDs are gaining attention due to their low power consumption and wide viewing angles. It utilizes the tunable reflection based on Bragg’s law as the photonic crystal lattice changes in response to the applied voltage. Various organic and inorganic core-shell particles have been utilized to obtain strong reflective colors in EPD in non-polar media. In this study, to investigate the potential of high index core@SiO2 particles for enhancing EPD performance, various materials were investigated and characterized. The results show that integrating these particles in EPDs leads to the improved color contrast and stability under DC electric fields.
