Drug carriers derived from L-tyrosine, a non-essential amino acid with both an amino group and a carboxyl group, exhibit excellent biocompatibility. It can load drugs or genes and have potential in the field of gene therapy. To obtain biocompatible biodegradable drug delivery vehicles, L-tyrosine polyester (LPE) was designed, and synthesized through esterification of desaminotyrosyl tyrosine hexyl ester (DTH) as a diol, and succinyl chloride, as a diacid chloride in the presence of triethylamine (TEA) and pyridine. DTH was pre-synthesized by reacting L-tyrosine and 1-hexanol using a thionyl chloride. The chemical structures of the synthesized polyester were confirmed by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and FT-IR spectroscopies, and the molecular weight of the polyester was characterized by GPC. In the future, we plan to use water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion technology to fabricate nanoparticles having drugs or genes.
