Polymers containing lipoic acid (LA), a natural small molecule derived from coenzymes within animal bodies, have recently garnered significant attention. Photopolymerization of LA results from the ring-opening of its disulfide bonds within the pentagonal structure, enabling diverse applications such as self-healing photocurable coatings and eco-friendlly adhesives. In this study, bis-LA-BDO was synthesized through esterification of LA and 1,4-butanediol (BDO), as a potential crosslinking agent in the polymerization of polyacrylate due to the ring opening of disulfide bonds at both ends. Additionally, utilizing the photopolymerization properties of LA in a solvent-free molten state, various acrylates were copolymerized to produce eco-friendly films. The synthesized bis-LA-BDO and films were characterized using FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopies. Thermal properties were also evaluated through TGA and DSC.
