The lack of potable water is a challenging global problem. In developing countries, many people suffer from unclean water. Desalination technology has attracted wide attention in water treatment. Solar-powered desalination has several advantages such as alleviating water shortage, lower energy consumption, environmental friendliness, and sustainability. Therefore, various absorbers including metal nanoparticles, carbon and plasmonic materials have been developed for efficient solar-driven evaporation. MOF-based materials are also promising candidates for various research due to their high porosity, large specific surface area and ease of synthesis. This study using ZIF-8, focuses on the improving water evaporation rate under the 1sun (1.53 kg m-2·h-1), energy conversion efficiency (85%) and low thermal conductivity of ZIF 8-derived carbon aerogel with high specific surface area (524 m2·g-1), low density (0.07 g·cm-3), and hydrophilicity.
