Carbon materials are widely used in catalyst layers for water-splitting electrocatalysts. This study presents the preparation of functionalized carbon nanotubes (FCNTs) with 3-D scaffold structures and high dispersibility in slurry, successfully combined with FeNi-MIL-101. Structural changes in MIL-101 due to the incorporation of CNTs were thoroughly investigated. The MIL-101/FCNT composite materials exhibited significantly improved OER performance in alkaline environment with increased electrical conductivity. Additionally, the inclusion of FCNTs enabled the fabrication of catalyst-coated electrodes via a simple slurry casting method, benefiting from the binding effect of FCNTs. This study provides valuable insights into the design of MOF-based water-splitting catalysts using CNT scaffolds, facilitating the efficient production of large-area coated electrodes.
