Eco-friendly enhancement of PET non-woven fabric performance with lignin coating

This study aims to enhance the filtration performance and multifunctionality of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) non-woven fabric by coating it with lignin. PET non-woven fabrics are used in various fields due to their excellent mechanical properties, but their ability to adsorb organic pollutants is limited. In response, we adopted various coating techniques to apply lignin to PET non-woven fabrics. The lignin-coated PET non-woven fabrics exhibited increased adsorption efficiency for organic pollutants in experiments with organic dyes and polyaromatic hydrocarbons compared to uncoated PET fabrics. Moreover, the lignin coating endowed the fabrics with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. These findings suggest that lignin-coated PET non-woven fabrics could provide an eco-friendly and efficient method for organic pollutant removal, expanding the potential applications of lignin.
