With the increasing global emphasis on the eco-friendliness of materials, significant progress has been made in the development of polymer composites containing biodegradable PLA. In particular, PLA has focused on enhancing its physical properties and processability for industrial applications over the past few decades. In this study, we focused on the unique rheological properties of bottlebrush polymers to improve the processability of PLA as processing aids. With consideration for industrial applications, mass-produceable cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB)-g-PLA bottlebrush copolymers have been designed by grafting PLA onto biodegradable polymers to produce blends with PLA without compromising their biodegradable characteristics. Rheological properties of PLA blends were compared by adjusting the molecular weights and structures of BBPs. Finally, the role of BBPs as processing aids was scrutinized by evaluating melt tension and draw resonance of PLA blends during extrusion process.
