Photopolymerized Single-Layer Coatable Retarder Using Self-Assembled Host-Guest Liquid Crystal Monomers

An anti-reflective film is fabricated to have more advantages for optical properties than pre-existed film in the flexible display industry. To fabricate a single-layered coatable compensation film, we newly designed and synthesized a X–shaped guest reactive mesogen (XRM) containing a conjugated aromatic core with two imine bonds and two alkyl chains. The single-layered compensation film was fabricated by coating, self-assembly with subsequent photopolymerization of XRM and the smectic host rod-shaped RM mixture. Through the optical measurement, it was found that the optimized content of XRM was 40 wt%. The optimized single-layered coatable compensator exhibits ideal negative dispersion retardation characteristics due to the host-guest molecular arrangement.
