In organic electronic devices, phase separation behaviors between donor and acceptor materials within the active layer has long been a significant cause of performance deterioration. Currently, most research is focused on addressing and mitigating this phase separation issue. In 2022, our research group found that the hierarchical phase separation between polymer donor and PC70BM in an active layer helps increase photocurrent density as well as decrease dark current density in photodiodes. To further utilize the phase separation effect, we used a new acceptor material (Korea Univ.) and incorporated it into the donor polymer matrix. This led to a more pronounced vertical phase separation phenomenon. When applying this phenomenon to photomultiplication‐type organic photodetectors (PM-type OPDs), we achieved exceptionally enhanced dynamic characteristics, including ultrafast response times and frequency responses, which had not been observed before in PM-type OPDs.
