Gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA) is a hydrogel synthesized from gelatin and methacrylic anhydride(MA), known for its superior biocompatibility and biodegradability, making it suitable for a range of biomedical applications. In this study, drug eluting hydrogel beads were prepared by copolymerizing of GelMA with 3-sulfopropyl methacrylate(SPMA) using a water-in-oil method in the presence of a thermal initiator. Drug eluting hydrogel bead is a material for chemical embolization treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. On that basis, SPMA facilitates the efficient absorption of doxorubicin(DOX), a commonly used anticancer drug for liver cancer. Additionally, GelMA hydrogel beads were synthesized by incorporating the Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles(SPIONs), which impart magnetism and enable precise magnetic control for positioning the beads within blood vessels.
