Study on the Thermal Behavior of Polyamide 6 Composites Containing Recycled Phenolic Composite.

Phenolic resins, as thermosetting polymers, exhibit excellent heat resistance. Due to their thermosetting nature, recycling these resins is challenging, and more than 10% of the material is typically discarded in the form of sprues and runners. In this study, the discarded sprues and runners were ground and compounded with polyamide. The ground particles were processed into a powder with a size of 150 µm for experimentation. Thermal properties were analyzed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer(DMA) measurements. Mechanical properties were evaluated using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and Notched Izod Impact Tester. It was observed that the addition of recycled phenolic resin powder led to an increase in the glass transition temperature(Tg) and crystallization temperature (Tc). In conclusion, incorporating recycled phenolic resin enhanced the crystallization rate.
