Gauze is commonly used in wound management due to its protective and healing qualities. However, traditional gauze often has limited antimicrobial properties, which can decrease its effectiveness. This study aimed to improve infection control by applying antimicrobial agents containing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to the cotton gauze surfaces. We synthesized these agents by encapsulating AgNPs in silica nanoparticles, which reduces metal ion toxicity and results in a visually appealing products. The antimicrobial effectiveness was tested using disc diffusion and pour plating methods against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis, showing over 90% antimicrobial activity. Consequently, the modified gauze dressing demonstrates enhanced antimicrobial properties, is non-toxic to humans, and provides improved persistence of antimicrobial effects due to the encapsulated agents.
