We present a novel Pickering emulsion microreactor for converting polyester waste into valuable diols using metal-catalyst-attached iron oxide nanoplatelets (IOPLs). The amphiphilic IOPLs were synthesized via reverse precipitation and surface modification with APTES and HTMS. Metal catalysts were attached through chemical reduction. The stable Pickering emulsion, formed by applying physical forces, was characterized using interfacial rheology. CO2-induced demulsification facilitated easy product recovery. Raman spectroscopy, TEM, and FT-IR analysis confirmed the catalyst-IOPL relationship. This innovative approach addresses the challenge of polyester waste in wastewater, offering an efficient method for converting it into valuable products while enabling catalyst recovery, thus promoting sustainability in waste management and resource utilization.
