This presentation explores the development of bioinspired channel-based membranes designed for efficient molecular separations. Mimicking biological transport mechanisms, these membranes achieve high selectivity and permeability, making them ideal for applications in water purification, gas separation, and energy storage. We will discuss the principles of bioinspiration in membrane design, focusing on the synthesis and fabrication of membranes incorporating synthetic channels, which are termed as artificial water channels. Case studies will illustrate their effectiveness in environmental applications, focusing on water purification and separations, and highlighting their potential to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint. Bioinspired membranes offer sustainable solutions for molecular separations, with significant implications for industrial processes. Future research directions will be outlined to enhance their performance and scalability for broader use.
