The chemical upcycling of carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable degradable polymers is considered one of the most effective methods for CO2 fixation. However, traditional degradable polycarbonates derived from CO2 release significant amounts of CO2 during degradation, which does not effectively address the global warming problem. In this context, we have designed and synthesized polycarbonate vitrimers (PCVs) that can be physically recycled without emitting CO2. The mechanical and rheological properties of these PCVs can be tailored by adjusting the crosslinking density. Notably, these PCVs can achieve moduli between 3 to 15 MPa and elongations from 4% to 30% along the crosslinking density. Additionally, these PCVs can be physically reprocessed at 150 °C and are chemically degradable under acidic conditions. This innovative approach to utilizing CO2 as a resource presents significant potential for the development of sustainable materials.
