As the fast signal detection is essential for the image sensors and optical communication systems, many studies have focused on increasing both the R and D* values and decreasing the signal response time of OPDs. In the inverted OPD structure, a hierarchical arrangement of the donor and acceptor is regarded as an ideal BHJ morphology for fast electron transport and minimizing charge recombination. In this study, we synthesized a BBO-based novel conjugated polymer donor, PBB. The BHJ of PBB:PC71BM devices in the Xy solvent were attributed to the inverted hierarchical arrangement of PBB and PC71BM via a biased orientation of PC71BM toward the ZnO electron transporting layer. As a results, BHJ OPDs developed by blending PBB and PC71BM showed highly promising OPD performance with an R of 0.385 A W−1 and D* of 1.33 × 1013 Jones at –1 V using the Xy solvent.
