We screened the chemical structure of the diamine monomers for the synthesis of photo-sensitive water-borne poly (amic acid) salt (W-PAAS) using an eco-friendly procedure with water as the solvent. Using the dimethylaminopropyl metacrylamide (DMAPMAA) as the tertiary amine, the nucleophilic addition reaction between aromatic dianhydride and diamines proceeded. For the versatility of the chemical structure of W-PAAS, the aromatic and alicyclic diamine monomers have been tested in this study. The mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of the polyimides (PIs) resulting from the imidization of W-PAAS precursors were investigated. We also demonstrated the photo-patternability of our water-borne polymer via the photolithography process. By doing so, we will propose a potential as dielectric materials for the advanced microelectronic devices prepared by the eco-friendly process.
