내용
The physical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) networks, which are one-dimensional assemblies of CNTs, often fall short of the theoretical limits of individual CNTs due to high porosity and relatively weak inter-tube properties at their junctions. We introduce a simple post-treatment technique utilizing high-intensity laser-induced shockwaves of up to ∼3 GPa to effectively densify CNT bundles and networks, transforming CNT bundles into flattened multilayered graphene nanoribbons. This method selectively modifies CNT assemblies without chemical agents, allowing the tuning of network properties. After the laser shock compression, the CNT network structure exhibited two to three times higher specific strength and modulus compared to as-prepared CNT networks. Additionally, thermal and electrical conductivities were amplified by 400–500% post-treatment. The densification of CNT networks and physical graphitization led to improved load, electron, and phonon transfer between flattened CNTs and their bundles.
