Blood loss can lead to health complications, be life-threatening, and sometimes cause bacterial infection at the wound site if not promptly addressed.Conventional tissue adhesives have limitations, including weak adhesion in moisture conditions, long adhesion times, the need for additional processes for robust adhesion, and lack of antibacterial properties. This study demonstrated a wound-healing hydrogel using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), dopamine-grafted sodium alginate (SA-DOPA), and tannic acid (TA), with borax as a crosslinking agent. SA-DOPA, known for its adhesive properties in moist conditions, enhanced the hydrogel's adhesion with tissues. The hydrogel showed strong, rapid adhesion to tissues, high mechanical strength, self-healability, 3D printability, and antibacterial properties. We confirmed hemostatic ability with a series of in vitro and in vivo experiments. Additionally, we envision that the hydrogel can be utilized as sutureless wound closure.
