The growing demand for environmentally friendly technologies has led to an expanding market for biopolymers. At the same time, there is a rising focus on developing new antimicrobial materials that offer long-lasting effectiveness and low toxicity, given the crucial importance of personal hygiene, health, and safety in everyday life. In this study, essential oils were encapsulated within liposomes, and these encapsulated liposomes were further coated with chitosan to enhance their physical and chemical stability. Biocompatible gelatin films were then produced through solvent casting, incorporating the chitosan-coated liposomes. Antibacterial tests using Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis demonstrated excellent antibacterial properties, with efficacy exceeding 90%. These films have significant potential for use in polymer-based biodegradable food packaging materials, particularly in preventing cross-contamination.
