Plastic recycling is important because it conserves raw materials by reusing already processed materials, protects natural resources, and prevents the accumulation of additional waste in landfills. EVA, one of the important ethylene copolymers having various industrial applications, is often used as a chemically crosslinked thermoset. Despite of good performance properties, the chemically crosslinked EVA is not recyclable by conventional thermal processing techniques. Recently, vitrimers are paid great attentions due to their thermoset like performance properties and thermal reprocessability. In this work, a EVA vitrimer was prepared by crosslinking with a silane bearing two dynamic boronic ester bonds in the presence of transesterification catalyst, and their thermal and mechanical properties were characterized by DSC, DMA, and tensile testing. The EVA vitrimer has better mechanical properties than its neat thermoplastic counterpart, and the dynamic boronic bonds allow it to be reprocessed without losing these properties.
