Epoxy resin, known for its high mechanical strength, is widely utilized in electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries. However, unlike thermoplastic polymers, epoxy, a thermoset, cannot be recycled due to its lack of melt-processability. To overcome this limitation, a new series of epoxy-based vitrimer crosslinked by dual-dynamic networks was developed. By adjusting the monomer ratios, the densities for both dynamic and permanent crosslinking can be tailored, producing reprocessable vitrimers with high mechanical strength and thermal stability comparable to that of conventional bisphenol A epoxy resin. Additionally, the vitrimer can be depolymerized via base-catalyzed chemical recycling method in heated water. Furthermore, the vitrimer films can be folded into various shapes, and shape memory/fixation could be realized by varying thermal annealing temperatures. This vitrimer matrix shows great potential as a recyclable composite matrix and substrate for flexible electronics.
