UV curable polymeric coatings are important class of materials having diverse industrial applications. Various efforts have been made to endow self-healing ability to these materials. In this work, optically transparent self-healing coating material was prepared by UV curing of mixture consisting of polyurethane acrylate oligomer (PUA), hyperbranch acrylate (HBA) and diboronic ester dithiol (DBDT). It was revealed that surface scratch of the UV cured coating could be healed upon heating above 50 ℃ and mechanical properties were almost recovered after healing. Futhermore, surface hydrophobicity with water contact angle of about 100 ° can be implemented to the coating material by using HBA having long-chain alkyl group as a component in coating formulation. Such self-healing, optically transparent, and hydrophobic UV cured coatings may have many industrical applications.
