High-Performance and Flexible Thermoelectric Generator Based on a Robust Carbon Nanotube/BiSbTe Foam

Organic thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are advantageous for their flexibility and lightness, but their performance is limited by high electrical resistance and insufficient mechanical durability. In this research, we introduced a rapid solvent evaporation method to produce a robust carbon nanotube/Bi0.45Sb1.55Te3 (CNT/BST) foam with an enhanced thermoelectric figure of merit (zT). The incorporation of sub-micron BST particles within the porous CNT foam boosts the thermoelectric properties and the mechanical strength of the composite material. The CNT/BST foam achieved a zT value of 7.8 × 10−3 at 300 K, which is a 5.7-fold increase compared to the pristine CNT foam. Utilizing the CNT/BST foam, we constructed a flexible TEG that exhibited an internal resistance of 12.3 Ω and an output power of 15.7 µW with a temperature gradient of 21.8 K. This flexible TEG maintained remarkable stability and durability even after undergoing 10,000 bending cycles.
