Ionic diode, known for their ability to rectify ionic currents, has been applied in domains such as neuromorphic technology. Meanwhile, conventional ionic diode is typically based on heterojunction structure and is predominantly explained through thermodynamic models. However, the kinetic properties of the polyelectrolyte complex, resulting from the interaction between two oppositely charged ionoelastomers, are expected to be considered more dominant in heterojunction structure. In this research, we developed a tri-layer structured ionic diode that operates kinetically by inducing a phase transition through the application of voltage in ion-sensitive layers, specifically in polyelectrolyte complex and plastic crystal embedded complex. We demonstrated that the same operating mechanism applies to both the heterojunction and the tri-layer structure, confirming that this approach is generally applicable to most layers whose kinetic properties can be controlled by ions.
