As smart farming continues to advance, the number of electronic devices to control temperature, humidity, and light around cultured plants is increasing. In these electronic devices, energy loss occurs and typically dissipates into the surroundings. We have developed a system that transfers this loss energy to plants through the soil. We designed electrode grounds to form an electric field using this loss energy. In this system, we found energy transfer through soil can provide plants with electrical stimulation without extra energy consumption. Because plants contain much water, which has high permittivity, electrical stimulation can reach the entire plant. Electrical stimulation opens stomata in the chloroplasts and increases the permeability of carbon dioxide (CO2). Increased CO2 accelerates the Calvin cycle, leading to the production of more energy. Consequently, this increased energy production accelerates plant growth resulting in higher yields.
