Ionoelastomers (IEs) are an emerging class of materials due to the synergistic combination of ionic liquids and elastic properties of network polymers. The single-ion conduction and liquid-free nature of IEs can enable a wide range of applications in electrochemical devices. Despite these versatile properties, IEs have faced challenges such as low processability, and limiting their application. Herein, we report on the synthesis methods of thermoplastic IEs. The thermoplastic IEs, which feature excellent elasticity, single ion conductivity, and enhanced processability, are a polymer electrolyte that merges with the properties of ionic liquids and elastomers. Using these outstanding properties, we present intrinsically highly deformable ionotronics devices. We fabricate ionic-diode formed by heterojunctions of IEs to evaluate the potential of elastomeric polymer electrolytes for ionotronics applications.
