We herein present the use of TIPS-pentacene to create martensitic crystalline film arrays for micromachine applications. The arrays exhibit quick and reversible phase transitions, capability for performing heavy-duty work, and exceptional fatigue resistance. These could be enabled by a novel solution printing approach – meniscus-guided microtransfer molding technique (MG-μ-TM). By MG-μ-TM, attributes such as (crystallographic) alignment purity, film homogeneity, and mechanical durability/flexibility are remarkably improved. Mechanical testing confirmed the films' durability and capacity to withstand multiple transformation cycles. These qualities make TIPS-pentacene films ideal for micro actuators, which provide precise and dependable actuation at the microscale. Our discoveries pave the way for novel advances in micromachine and thin-film robotics technology.
