Large-area and highly flexible polycarboxylate ether-Ti3C2Tx MXene/polyimide composite films for electromagnetic interference shielding

MXene has been actively utilized in cutting-edge applications including energy storage, catalysis, and electromagnetic shielding due to its high electrical conductivity and abundant surface functional groups. In this study, we surface treated MXene with PCE to significantly improve the water dispersibility of MXene and developed a hybridization method with aqueous PAAS. Then, slot die coating is used to create a large-area PCE-MXene/PI composite film with a controlled MXene content of 30–90 wt%. Its size is 15 cm x 15 cm. During this process, heat is applied up to 380 °C to remove PCE and create a pore structure. These composite films exhibit high electromagnetic wave shielding performance of more than 70 dB from X band to Ka band due to their high dispersibility and pore structure, and high flexibility with bending radii of less than 2 mm.
