In the realm of bio-electronic applications, including skin patches and implantable devices, the need for bio-safe batteries is paramount. Although various vitamin-derived molecules, including riboflavin and quinone derivatives, have been explored as electrode materials for bio-safe batteries, they often suffer from high solubility in aqueous electrolytes, leading to rapid capacity degradation. Herein, to address this challenge, we present a novel approach that employs vitamin K2 with fat-soluble properties as a cathode material for bio-safe batteries. In our study, the vitamin K2 electrode demonstrated excellent cycle stability with a remarkable capacity retention over 100 charge/discharge cycles in an aqueous zinc-ion cell. Additionally, through binder optimization, we enhanced its rate performance, achieving 67% capacity retention at a high discharge rate of 5C. Finally, cell viability tests confirmed the bio-safety of the whole electrode components.
