To date, lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) using liquid electrolytes are facing serious issues as loss of capacity due to Li-dendrite and polysulfide shuttle along with low safety. To overcome these challenges, the development of a safe and robust solid electrolyte with facile Li-ion transport is essential to replace liquid electrolyte. Accordingly, a flexible and superior Li-ion conductive solid polymer electrolyte is prepared from self-assembled poly(arylene ether sulfone) (PAES) grafted with double POSS-PEG (polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-polyethylene glycol) segments in the presence of highly conductive (ionic liquid/ethylene carbonate/ethyl propionate) co-solvents. The prepared PAES-g-2POSSPEG membrane achieves high Li-ion conductivity (2.29 mS cm-1 along with a Li-transference number of 0.766) without mechanical failure (Young’s modulus of 6.2 MPa). Especially, due to its excellent thermal and mechanical stability, Li-transport in PAES-g-2POSSPEG membrane is facile from -40 to 90 oC.
