Thermosetting polymers, such as epoxy, are extensively used as adhesives in industries like construction, automotive, aerospace, and electronics due to their strength, chemical resistance, and ability to bond with various materials. However, their exceptional durability presents challenges for easy removal and recycling. In this context, we have developed a new series of poly(β-amino esters) model covalent adaptable networks (CANs) as recyclable, bio-degradable and easily removable adhesives. CANs with exchangeable networks are being investigated as recyclable alternatives to traditional thermosets. By adjusting the dynamic crosslinking density, the thermal transition temperatures, along with the mechanical and adhesive properties, can be tailored. Furthermore, these CANs enable eco-friendly chemical recycling in heated water, making it bio-degradable and easier to remove them from surfaces.
