As the world becomes more environmentally focused, there's a growing need for eco-friendly electrochemical energy devices that can provide energy to these portable electronics. However, many reported devices use toxic materials, harming the environment and human health. Electric eels generated their own electricity by creating a potential difference using a concentration gradient of ions using an ion pump. Inspired by the electric eel`s energy generation system, we introduce a biocompatible power device using eco-friendly polymer-based hydrogels and salt concentration gradients. Our device generates electricity through salt concentration gradients in hydrogels, employing cation- and anion-selective hydrogel membranes instead of an ion pump to create a potential difference. We evaluate its electrochemical performance by measuring open circuit potential and short circuit current. This power source concept could be crucial for eco-friendly and biocompatible energy generation in devices.
