Aqueous zinc ion battery has been garnered significant attention as potential candidates for energy storage system due to their safety and durability. However, this system currently suffers from relatively short cycling stability. To address this issue, many researchers has focused on the development of electrode and electrolyte, while studies on the separation materials such as separation and membrane, which control the ion transport behavior closely related to cycling properties have been relatively overlooked. We here describe how ion transport through ion exchange membrane influences the performances of aqueous zinc ion battery. To elucidate the role of ion transport, we characterize two properties: ion diffusion driven by concentration gradients and ion migration originated from electrochemical potential differences. Interestingly, we find a strong correlation between ion transport characteristics and electrochemical properties. More detail will be presented in this talk.
