UV absorbers have proven effective in preventing the photodegradation of polymers, discoloration of dyes, and alterations in the mechanical properties of materials due to ultraviolet (UV) light exposure. Organic UV absorbers, in particular, are preferred over inorganic ones for their ability to precisely block specific UV ray ranges, which has led to ongoing research in this area.
Commercially, UV absorbers are used across industries to block broad UVA range (400-320 nm) exposure, benefiting applications such as automotive parts, optical devices, and furniture. However, there are challenges in achieving absorption within specific wavelength ranges required by certain industries.
This study focuses on synthesizing cyanoacrylate-based UV absorbers by introducing various substituents to control the UV absorption spectrum. These synthesized UV absorbers were then mixed into acrylic adhesive resins to impart UV blocking functionality.
