MXenes, 2D transition metal carbides and/or nitrides, possess unique inherent properties such as high electrical conductivity, solution processability, and are lightweight, thus highly appealing for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. However, MXenes primarily rely on a reflection-dominant shielding mechanism, which can cause secondary interference. In this study, we synthesized a gradient-structured MXene/MOF/CNT hybrid structure to reduce the reflection and enhance absorption of electromagnetic waves (EMW) while retaining overall shielding efficiency. Here, we fabricated a gradient-structured MXene/ZIF-8@ZIF-67/CNT composite film with varying CNT contents at each layer, where the top layer effectively absorbs EMW while the bottom layers serves as the EMI shielding supporting layer. We demonstrate that the tailored gradient structure increases the attenuation of incident EMW, thereby improving EMI shielding performance compared to conventional structures.
